Collioure

Collioure is a wonderful village that can be found a short distance from the Spanish border and just 15km to the southeast of Cala Gogo campsite along the south coast of France.
The village has been frequented by all varieties of artists including Picasso, Derain and Rennie McIntosh throughout the years, all whom visited to to paint the beautiful scenery and village including the many painted old cottages.
Art isn’t the only reason to visit Collioure as there’s also plenty of history within this beautiful village. At one end of the village you’ll find the Chateau Royal de Collioure which was once home, at different times, to both the Knights Templar and the Kings of Majorca. This wonderful 13th Centruy castle offers great views of the village, bay and surrounding area and is well worth visiting. At the other end of the harbour located on a small headland is the church of Notre Dame des Anges. Inside the church you’ll discover a beautiful, ornate altar.

Aqualand St Cyprien

Aqualand St Cyprien can be found just over 1km away from Cala Gogo campsite and is Roussillon’s largest water fun park. Within the park you’ll find a whole host of water slides and chutes to provide your whole family with fun and enjoyment. There’s a lazy river, jacuzzi, inflatable water slide and a variety of twisty slides and chutes. Aqualand water parks can be found throughout France, mainland Spain and the Canary islands so if you’ve visited any of their sister parks you’ll know exactly what to expect.
As with many water parks admission prices can be fairly high but it’s usually worth the price to see your children having as much fun as they’ll have at Aqualand. One thing to remember is that in high season these types of water park can become quite busy and you may well end up having to queue.

Luna Park

Luna Park can be found less than 5km to the south of Cala Gogo campsite and is a great fun fair amusement park. The park is only open from 8:30pm each evening, but provides a whole range of different fairground rides and attractions for a variety of different ages. Inside the park you’ll find rides such as the big wheel, bumper cars, merry go rounds and many, many more.
Luna Park covers an area of around 1 hectare filled with fun, thrills, enjoyment and laughter and the ride prices are also quite reasonable. If you and your kids love fairground rides then Luna Park is the place to go for an evening of fun!

Castelnou

A trip to the Roussillon region of France wouldn’t be complete without a trip to Castelnou. This fabulous medieval village can be found around 32km to the west of Cala Gogo campsite nestled on a hillside and is classified as Plus Beaux Villages de France (one of the most beautiful villages in France). Many of the buildings that date back to medieval times lie within the village boundaries at the foot of the castle and are superbly preserved. As you approach the village from any direction you’ll be able to see the village and castle in all it’s beauty. The streets of the village are lined with wonderful properties and the ramparts and towers that remain along with the 10th Century castle provide the ideal backdrop for some amazing photo opportunities. Visits to the castle itself will allow you to find out more about life in the region during medieval times.
Within Castelnou you’ll also find a range of lovely quaint art and craft shops where you can buy a traditional locally made souvenirs.
