Camping in Langeudoc and Roussillon shows why camping in France is so popular with families and holiday makers from not just the UK but all over Europe. Bordering the Mediterranean, Languedoc and Roussillon are one of Frances most diverse regions.
Inland the region’s countryside consists of spectacular mountains with deep valleys and gorges mixed with plains and marshes proving to be the perfect habitat for all types of wildlife.
Along the regions coastline lies the Mediterranean – clear and warm it’s water’s gently lap the golden, sandy beaches which tend to slope gently away into the sea.
With the warm sunshine beating down it is easy to understand why the region has proven to be a highly popular holiday destination for those with children. There are many popular lively and chic resorts in the area, however, there are many secluded beaches, caves and coves to be enjoyed.
Some parts of the region still remain as peaceful as they have been for many years meaning there are areas for the whole family to enjoy.
Due to its closeness to Catalonia the regions’ food tends to be a mixture of both areas leading to some of the local specialities which can contain both garlic, olive oil and provincial herbs.
For those interested in sightseeing and the historical side of the region you will not be disappointed.
The amphitheatre at Nimes and the walled city of Carcassoine are both major tourist attractions. These historic sights and many others like them, date back to when the region was settled by the Greeks, Phoenicians and Romans and invaded by others including the Vandals and Saracens.
