Days out and sightseeing
Whilst staying at Domaine de Drancourt why not find out what the local area has to offer. Exploring nearby towns and places of interest is a great way of making the most of your holiday in France.
Read on to find out more about some of the great things you can enjoy nearby!
Saint Valery sur Somme
Saint Valery sur Somme is a wonderfully quaint medieval town which is only 4km north of Domaine de Drancourt. The medieval port was the embarkation point for William the Conqueror when he invaded England in 1066 and there’s plenty to see and do here. The area is rich in natural beauty and much of this can be seen by taking the local steam train which runs in high season. Since 2003 Saint Valery sur Somme was voted “Les plus beaux detours de France”, one of France’s most beautiful destinations and it’s not hard to understand why. If you’re staying at Domaine de Drancourt it really should be on your list of places to go.
Musee Somme 1916
The Musee Someme 1916 can be found in the town of Albert which lies 90km to the east of Domaine de Drancourt. Although this may appear to be some distance away, the museum is well worth a visit if you want to find out more about WWI. Within the museum you’ll find out what it was like to be in the trenches during the war with display cases holding a variety of weapons and items from this era. The end of the visit finishes with a light and sound display which shows visitors what it would have been like at night during one of the many bombings.
Canadian War Memorial at Vimy
The Canadian War Memorial is located at Vimy which is around 100km to the east of Domaine de Drancourt. The memorial itself is one of the most impressive of it’s type. The site is one of the few places where visitors can see preserved Allied and German trenches and gain a real feel of how WWI battles were fought. This memorial is definitely one to visit for those trying to find out more about WWI history especially those with Canadian ancestors.
Nausicaa Aquarium lies approximately 80km to the north of Domaine de Drancourt and makes for a wonderful family day out.
Nausicaa is Europe’s largest sea life centre and boasts over 34000 different animals including sea lions, penguins, octopus, sharks, jellyfish and much much more. We’re sure you’ll have a great time at Nausicaa seeing all the animals as well as finding out more about them through the impressive touch pool and a variety of shows and feeding times.
