Draguignan can be found 16km to the northwest of Domaine de la Noguiere campsite. Originally Draguignan consisted of a Roman fort which was built on the hill, with a medieval town and defences being built later. The hill is now dominated by the towns 17th century clock tower and offers great views of the surrounding areas. Within the boundaries of the older part of the town you’ll find a lot of narrow streets which are filled with interesting buildings, squares and fountains. If you’re interested in military history then the Museum of Artillery is located at Draguignan and the American cemetery along the boulevard John Kennedy is the resting places of soldiers who died during the invasion and liberation of southern France. Also at the cemetery you’ll find a memorial showing troop movements during the landings.
Aqualand is a spectacular water splash park which is located on the outskirts of Frejus approximately 17km to the southeast of Domaine de la Noguiere campsite. As one of the largest water parks in the region, you won’t be surprised to learn that you’ll have an awful lot of watery fun and excitement on your visit to Aqualand. There’s a great variety of slides, rides and pools for all different ages and abilities including a specific area for younger children. Entry prices are comparable with other water parks although please be aware that during high season, due to it’s popularity, Aqualand can become quite busy. It is therefore advisable, when buying tickets to consider paying a little extra for the fast passes that are available.
Gorges du Verdon
Although a little further afield at 73km northeast of Domaine de la Noguiere, we strongly recommend a visit to the Gorges du Verdon if you love the great outdoors. Known commonly as the French Grand Canyon, the Gorges du Verdon is a 200m deep and 25km long canyon which has been carved out of the rock over the millennia. This wonderful canyon is thought by many to be the most beautiful in all of Europe due to it’s stunning turquoise coloured river which meanders its way along the bottom of the gorge.
The gorge attracts many visitors each and every year including a variety of climbers, walkers and canoeists. Please don’t be put off if your not into sports activities as it’s possible to drive around the top of the gorge along the D23, D952 and the D71 roads and whilst doing so you’ll be able to find a whole host of places to stop to take some truly awe inspiring photographs.
St Maxime is located on the northern edge of the Gulf of St Tropez approximately 24km to the south of Domaine de la Noguiere campsite. This wonderfully pleasant town boasts a beautiful sandy 6km long beach which is protected from the winds by the Massif des Maures mountain range. The beach was, during the Second World War the main location for Operation Dragoon which was the liberation and invasion of southern France. The town was initially founded in 1000 AD and is well worth a visit, with a variety of historical buildings to see along with the beautiful beach on which you can sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery.
