Saint Rapael is a wonderful seaside resort which can be found 5km to the southwest of Douce Quietude campsite. Popular with water sports enthusiasts, visitors to Saint Raphael can take part in a variety of activities such as sea fishing, swimming, diving and sailing.
The main beach at Saint Raphael is covered in soft golden sand and is backed by a lovely long promenade.
Within the town itself you’ll find a great variety of shops and the cafes, restaurants and bars provide the perfect place where you can sit down and enjoy the summer sun with a snack, drink or spot of lunch.
The two main places you should see whilst in Saint Raphael is the Eglise des Templiers which is a 12th Century church that holds a variety of Roman remains and the museum of underwater archeology which offers you the opportunity to see some items that were recovered form under the sea by Jacques Cousteau. Items on display include things such as Roman artefacts, ships anchors and much more!
Frejus is located a little further west than Saint Raphael at around 8km from Douce Quietude campsite. Frejus is a lovely place to visit as not only is it home to Aqualand and Luna Park but also has a great variety of local history and culture.
There’s a great variety of shops, bars, restaurants and cafes for those looking to relax and there’s also plenty to do.
Frejus was once an important Roman town as can be seen from the amphitheatre. Smaller than the one at Nimes, the amphitheatre was large enough to hold around 10000 people who would have gone there to watch fights. Nowadays however the amphitheatre is used for more modern day entertainment such as concerts and shows.
The Roman theme continues with the museum that holds a variety of artifacts and the remains of the Roman aqueduct which is still visible today. Finally we recommend you seek out the cathedral and medieval town square. The cathedral has very impressive architecture and the square is home to the local market where you can buy various goods.
Aqualand is only 9km to the west of Douce Quietude campsite and is a great place to go if you love water parks.
Being the largest water park in the region means that you’re guaranteed lots of fun and excitement. Aqualand boasts a great range of slides and chutes which are suitable for a variety of ages and abilities. There’s a separate splash area with jets and small slides for younger children and for the more adventurous there are adrenaline filled slides and chutes.
Fast passes are worth considering as the park does get quite busy during high season due to it’s popularity.
If you’re looking for a great water park with lots of great slides, make sure you check out Aqualand.
