Days out and sightseeing

Whilst staying at Holiday Marina why not find out what the local area has to offer. Exploring nearby towns and places of interest is a great way of making the most of your holiday in France.

Read on to find out more about some of the great things you can enjoy nearby!

Saint Tropez

If there’s one place that you’ve probably heard of in the South of France it’s St Tropez! Located just 7km to the east of Holiday Marina, your holiday simply isn’t complete without a visit to St Tropez.
Once a sleepy fishing village, St Tropez is now one of the most popular resorts in the region and boasts a wonderful beach and a great variety of shops, bars, clubs, boutiques, restaurants and cafes.
A visit to St Tropez would not be complete without touching on it’s wonderful history. Much of the original fishing village still exists with plenty of beautiful painted fisherman’s cottages lining pleasant streets and the 16th Century citadel still stands high on the hill overlooking the surrounding area. Although the climb to the top of the hill can be quite arduous in summer months the effort is well worthwhile. The views from the top of the bay and surrounding areas are amazing with plenty of chances to take the perfect photo.

Grimaud

Grimaud is a beautiful village nestled in the hills a short distance from Port Grimaud and 5km to the west of Holiday Marina campsite. Dating back to Gallo-Roman times the village, perched on top of the hill occupied the perfect defensive position meaning that it was one of the most important places in the region, so much so that until the 19th Century the Gulf of St Tropez was known as the Gulf of Grimaud. Although there are some wonderful sights within the village itself, many people travel to Grimaud to see the Chateau. Although now ruined, the Chateau was constructed in the 13th Century and still boasts many of it’s high defensive walls. One of the best things about Grimaud is the view that can be had over the surrounding areas especially on a beautiful clear sunny day when you can see all the way to Port Grimaud.

Ramatuelle

Ramatuelle is a pleasant medieval village which sits high on top of the hills, 9km to the south of Holiday Marina campsite. The village was built on the hill to protect it’s inhabitants from marauding invaders who attacked villages along the south coast. Occupying a wonderfully defensive location the village has a myriad of pleasant winding streets that make their way in a circular motion to the top of the hill. The main square in Ramatuelle has a few bars, and restaurants but many people visit this wonderful village to escape the hustle and bustle and take in the wonderful views of the surrounding area and down to the sea. If you visit Ramatuelle ensure you take in the views available towards the coastal area of Pampelonne and it’s terrific beach as they really do make a wonderful photographic opportunity!

St Maxime

St Maxime can be found approximately 7km to the north east of Holiday Marina campsite and offers visitors the perfect chance to relax by the sea. Located on the Gulf of St Tropez, St Maxime boasts 6km of beautiful fine sandy beaches which were once the site of operation Dragoon which was the invasion and liberation of southern France during World War II. Nowadays however the fine beaches are a mecca for visitors looking to relax with the town and beach both being protected from the prevailing winds by the Massif des Maures mountain range. Founded initially in 1000AD, St Maxime has grown to become a very popular town with plenty for visitors to see and do and is well worth a visit.
