La Grotte de Saint Marcel
La Grotte de Saint Marcel is located near to the village of Saint Martin d’Ardeche around 28km to the southwest of L’Ardechois campsite.
Discovered in 1836 by a local hunter, around 57km of the cave systems have so far been explored with a variety of galleries and natural phenomenons having since been recorded.
Visitors to the caves are taken on an hour long tour where you’ll be able to discover a wonderful underground world of basins, formations and galleries along a 600m long circuit. If you’ve not visited an underground cave system before then we recommend you come to La Grotte de Saint Marcel. Children and adults will leave here with a truly unforgettable memory.
Pont d’Arc is one of the regions most notable tourist attractions and luckily it can be found a short 7 minute drive to the southwest of L’Ardechois campsite.
If you’re staying at L’Ardechois it’s well worth taking the time to see the Pont d’Arc which is an arch over the river Ardeche which has been carved out over the millennia. Standing at around 60m wide and 54m high the arch is known by many as the entrance to the Ardeche canyon which is highly popular with canoeists. Near to the Pont d’Arc you’ll also have the chance to view some special cave paintings which are located in the Chauvet Pont d’Arc cave that dates back over 30000 years. If there’s one place you need to visit whilst holidaying in the Ardeche it’s the Pont d’Arc.
Avignon lies 79km to the southwest of L’Ardechois campsite and although slightly further afield is well worth visiting. The site of the city has been inhabited since Neolithic times and is steeped in history. The old town is enclosed within medieval ramparts which still stand today, providing a wonderful sight. Avignon was for most of the 14th Century, the official home of the Pope. The impressive Palais des Papes should be on your list of places to see whilst in Avignon and with over 600,000 visitors each year is one of the most visited monuments in all of France.
La Ferme aux Crocodiles
La Ferme aux Crocodiles is a great place to visit if you’ve got children or an interest in crocodiles. Lying near to Pierrelatte, approximately 36km to the west of L’Ardechois campsite this wonderful park offers a unique and interesting look into the life of crocodiles. The farm itself covers over 8000 square metres and is home to a variety of flora and fauna, tropical birds, giant tortoises and of course crocodiles.
With in excess of 400 different crocodiles from a variety of different species you’ll be kept busy for quite some time photographing them all.
