Canyoning Park is located in Argeles sur Mer which is around 7km to the north of Les Criques de Porteils campsite. The park is located on the same site as Argeles Adventure high rope course and is a very unique water park which enables those over the age of 8 to experience the thrills and excitement of canyoning within a controlled and secure artificial environment. The park features a variety of pools and jumps, abseiling sections, rope ladders, nets, toboggans and a sensational 100m zip line, all of which you’ll be guided through by a qualified instructor.
Tickets can be bought for either park or a combined ticket for both parks. The park also features a picnic and restaurant area where you can sit and relax with a hot or cold drink, a variety of sandwiches, salads and pizzas.
Collioure is a beautiful coastal village which is located just 2km to the southeast of Les Criques de Porteils campsite and a short distance from the Spanish border.
The village is well worth a visit if you have some spare time with a great variety of history, art and culture to explore. The Chateau Royal de Collioure and the church of Notre Dame des Anges are the two main attractions in Collioure. The church is located on a small headland at one end of the harbour which contains a intricately designed altar whilst the Chateau lies at the other and was once home to both the knights Templar and the kings of Majorca.
The Chateau was built in the 13th Century and offers some wonderful views of the village and surrounding areas whilst the village itself has been a mecca for artists from around the globe including Picasso, Derain and Rennie McIntosh who have all visited to paint Collioure in all it’s glory.
Castelnou is a stunning medieval village which is nestled on a hillside just 37km to the west of Les Crique de Porteils campsite. The village has been classified as Plus Beaux Villages de France (one of the most beautiful villages in France) and it’s not hard to understand why.
The village itself sits at the foot of the hill on top of which you’ll find a picturesque 10th Century castle. Within the village boudaries you’ll discover a variety of medieval buildings which have been very well preserved. As you approach the village make sure you take a few photographs as the castle and village look particularly stunning from afar.
Castelnou offers you the chance to see some historical buildings, ramparts and towers and to find out more about medieval life. The village also holds weekly markets during high season where you’ll be able to purchase some of the local produce and the village also boasts some quaint art and craft shops where you can buy a few traditional souvenirs.
La Vallee des Tortues
Just 13km to the west of Les Criques de Porteils campsite you’ll find La Vallee des Tortues or the Valley of the Tortoises.
La Valle des Tortues is a great little wildlife park where you’ll be able to discover all about tortoises. There are around 500 different tortoises at the park from a variety of different species and a variety of ages. The tour of the park lasts for around one and a half hours and you’ll be able to see all the different tortoises including the eggs and younglings within the terrarium.
To keep you busy during your visit the park also has a variety of nature walks, children’s playground, maze and picnic areas. The entry prices are fairly reasonable and so if your looking for something a little different to do then a trip to La Vallee des Tortues could be for you!
