Les Grottes de Roffy campsite occupies a wonderful rural location deep in the heart of the Dordogne countryside a short distance from the medieval town of Sarlat.

Although the campsite is fairly small, what it lacks in pitches it makes up in charm with many of the facilities such as the reception and restaurant being located in traditional converted sand coloured stone barns.

Les Grottes de Roffy is a friendly campsite which offers a great range of facilities and activities. The swimming pool complex boasts 4 swimming pools and a jacuzzi whilst other on site activities include a variety of sports such as football, tennis and basketball and there are even two playgrounds for younger children to enjoy.

One of the great things about Les Grottes de Roffy is the campsite’s location. Surrounded by some truly wonderful countryside, visitors are given the opportunity to get out and explore all that’s best about the Dordogne. Go for a walk, jump on your bike, go for a drive or even take an excursion down the river in a canoe the choice is yours.

Sarlat

Sarlat is possibly one of the most beautiful medieval towns in the Dordogne and can be found 7km to the west of Les Grottes de Roffy campsite.
The town originated from the 9th century and the majority of buildings and architecture date back to the medieval era.
There are a number of places you should aim to visit when in Sarlat including the towns main square, the Place de la Liberte. Here you’ll find a variety of interesting buildings and architecture and it is the ideal place to take a few photos. If you’re interested in history, you’ll also be wanting to see the 12th century cathedral which can be found at the Place du Peyrou. The final and most spectacular is the Sarlat Panoramic lift which can be found in the 14th century Église Sainte-Marie’s bell tower. The lift will take you high above the town giving you a real panoramic view over the tops of the other buildings which is well worthwhile.

Beynac et Cazenac

Beynac et Cazenac can be found 18km to the southwest of Les Grottes de Roffy campsite and is a spectacular place to visit.
Another one of the regions “Les plus beaux villages de France” one of the most beautiful villages of France, Beynac et Cazenac is a medieval village that is located below cliffs along La Dordogne river.
Those looking for a photographic opportunity will find plenty at Beynac et Cazenac. The village is overlooked by a Chateau, which just happens to be one of the best medieval Chateau in the region. The Chateau was used to protect the village from enemies across the river and was once occupied by none other than King Richard the Lion Heart of England. Make sure you take your camera if you’re visiting the Chateau as the views from it are spectacular.

Indian Forest

If you’re looking for a spot of fun, adventure and adrenaline then a trip to the Indian Forest should be on your list.
Located 6km to the south of Les Grottes de Roffy, this wonderful forest adventure trail has a variety of different courses which are suitable for all ages and levels of ability.
With 6 separate courses designed to test you, the Indian Forest offers a great deal of fun. Take a walk along the monkey bridges, suspended beams and Nepalese bridges, zoom down the zip line or have a go at one of the rope climbs, the choice is yours! Please note that although the park is open from March until November, in times of heavy rain the course may be shut for safety reasons.

Les Jardins de Marqueyssac

Les Jardins de Marqueyssac are located in the grounds of the 18th Century Chateau de Marqueyssac 18kn to the southwest of Les Grottes de Roffy campsite. The grounds are extremely well maintained with over 150000 box trees, all of which are pruned by hand. The grounds extend some distance, with over 6km of walks which offer some truly wonderful panoramic views of the surrounding areas. As well as the plants and walks there are a variety of activities available for children. The game areas include swings, play huts and a maze for children, there’s also a wood turners workshop where you can see someone at work, an arts and crafts area where children can make their own natural creations and there’s even an area dedicated to rock climbing for beginners.
