Perpignan is a lovely city which is a short distance from Les Tropiques at just 20km away to the southwest.
Perpignan is the last major city before the Spanish border and therefore has a wonderful mix of Catalan and French culture, history and food. The city was once the capital of both the country of Roussillon as it once was and also the Kingdom of Majorca. Many of the buildings within the city depict it’s Spanish roots such as the Palais des Rois de Majorque which was constructed in the 13th Century and was once the residence of the king. Le Castillet lies in the centre of the town and was built in the 14th Century. It is now home to a wonderful museum which is devoted to Catalan art. The Saint Jean quarter of town is also well worth a visit being home to wonderful 14th and 15th Century houses and mansions. For those looking simply to relax, you can find a whole multitude of shops, cafes and restaurants where you can sit back and enjoy all that goes on around you.
Aqualand St Cyprien
Aqualand St Cyprien is the largest water park in the region of Roussillon and can be found 22km to the south of Les Tropiques campsite. If you and your children love water slides then this is the place to go for a cracking day out. If you’ve been to an Aqualand water park before then you know exactly what to expect. A great variety of pools, slides and rides for all members of the family!
Choose from the lazy river where you can drift along, relax in the jacuzzi, have a thrilling ride on the inflatables water chute or zoom down one of the twisty rides, the choice is yours.
As you’d expect with most water parks admission prices are fairly high and do expect to queue. We’d suggest however you look into their fast passes, if available, as during high season the park can become busy and they allow you to jump the queue to a certain extent.
