Days out and sightseeing

Whilst staying at L’Ardechois campsite why not find out what the local area has to offer. Exploring nearby towns and places of interest is a great way of making the most of your holiday in France.

Read on to find out more about some of the great things you can enjoy nearby!

Castellane is a lovely medieval town that lies a mere 1.5km to the east of Domaine du Verdon campsite and is well worth visiting. Steeped in history, Castellane lies at the foot of a 184m high rock along the Verdon river.
The town has a wonderful central square and the many old trees give Castellane a real sense of character. High on top of the rock, you’ll find a chapel which takes about 30 minutes to walk to. The rock itself was used as a fortified position and was unconquerable by invaders due to it’s height and the fact it was surrounded by fences. The view from the top is superb allowing you to see the town and surrounding areas with ease. A trip to the top is well worth the effort and the photos you can take once there will make your holiday unforgettable.

Lac de Sainte-Croix

The Lac de Sainte-Croix lies approximately 37km to the west of Domaine du Verdon campsite and is the largest lake in the area at about 20km by 3km in size. There are plenty of opportunities whilst visiting the lake to take part in, including a variety of different activities such as swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and sailing. Those who prefer to stay on dry land can go on one of the many walks available or we suggest visiting the towns of Aiguines or Bauduen, both have wonderful views and are stepped in history and culture.

Gorges du Verdon

Gorges du Verdon is a canyon carved out of the rock over the millennia which is thought by many to be the most beautiful river canyon in Europe. Located to the southwest of Domaine du Verdon campsite, the gorge attracts many visitors each year and it’s not hard to see why.
The canyon stands at approximately 200m deep and 25km long with a stunning turquoise green coloured river as it’s bottom. The Gorges du Verdon is extremely popular with kayakers, climbing enthusiasts and walkers with a variety of different climbing and walking routes available. If you’re not into your sports then don’t worry as it’s possible to drive around the edge of the gorge along the D23, D952 and the D71 where there are plenty of places to stop and take photos or go for a walk.

Adventure Forest

Adventure Forest is an excellent tree course which is located less than 1km to the southwest of Domain du Verdon campsite. Test your climbing and balancing skills on this wonderful selection of courses, balance on tightropes, swing from tree to tree, walk along the rope bridges and tackle the death slides. There are a variety of courses for different ages and abilities which should suit the majority of families. Set in a beautiful location within a forest overlooking the river Verdon, this tree course is well worth while taking a look at if you want a little bit of fun and adventure on your holiday.
