Les Ormes – Domaine des Ormes

Les Ormes, formally known as Domaine des Ormes or Chateau des Ormes is a campsite located in Dol de Bretagne, Brittany that we recently visited during the Easter break.

We booked Les Ormes as it opens at the beginning of April and offers, not only a wide range of on site activities but also because of its location and the wide range of places to visit nearby.

You can stay at Les Ormes with all three of the holiday companies we feature being Canvas Holidays, Eurocamp and Al Fresco Holidays. We decided this time to stay with Al Fresco Holidays in one of their Vivaldi 3 bedroom mobile homes.

We travelled to France via the Plymouth to Roscoff ferry which is operated by Brittany Ferries. The journey to Les Ormes, once we left Roscoff ferry port took us around 2 and a half hours which was great as it’s a nice short journey.

Les Ormes Campsite

Les Ormes as we’ve mentioned is located at Dol de Bretagne which is between St Malo in Brittany and Mont Saint Michel in Normandy. The campsite lies on an old bishops estate where you’ll find a beautiful Chateau, a golf course, equestrian facilities and of course the campsite.

The whole estate amounts to around 200 hectares and there’s plenty for all ages to do. As we went at the beginning of the season, some of the facilities and activities were not open. Although this may be a disappointment to some it is understandable. The campsite offers 6 swimming pools in total and although the outside pools are closed until May the inside pool is a good size with a 4 lane slide, single drop slide and lazy river.

Also open at the time we travelled was the zip line, climbing wall, wake boarding along one of the lakes, a mini golf course, driving range, golf course, horse and pony riding, archery, tree top course and of course the children’s playgrounds.

Our kids tried out a variety of activities whilst at Les Ormes but their favourite had to be the zip line. This starts with a climb to the top of a tower followed by flying down the zip line over a grassy area and lake where the pedaloes are located.

Les Ormes also offered a great range of activities for children with discos and entertainment available on certain afternoons and evenings in and around the bar. The bar offers a wide range of drinks and overlooks the green areas of the campsite, zip line and one of the swimming pools and also boasts a great games room where children can play on a variety of games. The bar, games room and terrace also offers free wifi which is great for the teenagers who wish to catch up with friends.

Attractions near Les Ormes

The great thing about Les Ormes is not just what is available on the campsite but also what is available nearby!

We visited a variety of attractions which you’ll be able to read about in future articles. These included the Grand Aquarium at St Malo which is located just 20 minutes drive away and boasts a wonderful variety of sea creatures. St Malo itself where you can see the magnificent walled port. The stunning Mont Saint Michel which lies just 30 minutes to the northeast and is not to be missed and Alligator Bay which is near to Mont Saint Michel.

Now as we’ve mentioned before we stayed with Al Fresco Holidays in one of their mobile homes but you too can stay at Les Ormes with any of the following providers in either a tent, mobile home or chalet.
