Days out and sightseeing
Whilst staying at Le Parc de Fierbois campsite why not find out what the local area has to offer. Exploring nearby towns and places of interest is a great way of making the most of your holiday in France.
Read on to find out more about some of the great things you can enjoy nearby!
Chinon is a great place to visit to find out more about this wonderful part of France. Located approximately 36km to the west of Le Parc de Fierbois, Chinon is a beautiful medieval town which is steeped in history. The town is overlooked by a wonderful ruined Chateau and sits upon the banks of the Vienne river.
A walk through the town will bring you along a myriad of pretty cobbled streets which are lined with houses and other buildings which date back to the 15th and 16th centuries. One of the many things Chinon is famous for is the fact that Joan of Arc met with Charles VII of France and took control of the army to stop the siege of nearby Orleans in 1429. Those wishing to find out more can visit the old bell tower which houses a small museum which is dedicated to Joan.
Zoo Parc de Beauval
Zoo Parc de Beauval lies around 64km to the east of Le Parc de Fierbois but in our opinion is well worth the visit. The zoo is classed as one of the top 15 zoo’s in the world and offers visitors the chance to see in excess of 5700 animals from a variety of different species. Animals at Zoo Parc de Beauval include over 40 big cats, koalas, over 160 monkeys, okapi, manatees and the famous giant pandas. Whilst visiting the zoo make sure you visit the largest tropical birdhouse in France and the variety of shows that take place. Visitors to the zoo can look forward to seeing a selection of performances from the sea lions, feeding times of different animals and birds of prey in free flight.
Futuroscope lies only 66km to the south of Le Parc de Fierbois and is Europe’s first theme park devoted to cinematographic, multimedia, and audio-visual technology. Covering approximately 131 acres the theme park offers a variety of mazes, adventure playgrounds and other fun things for children to do but the main attraction is the cinemas.
Those interested in technology and cinematography will love the 600 square metre Kinemax cinema screen, the 3d cinema screen and most important of all the simulated cinema where your seat will actually move in reaction to events happening on screen. For a fun filled day out, take a trip to Futuroscope.
Aquarium de Touraine
The Aquarium de Touraine is located 41km to the northeast of Le Parc de Fierbois, just outside of the city of Tours. The aquarium boasts 10 themed rooms where you’ll be able to find out more about both local water inhabitants and those from slightly further afield.
There are over 60 tanks with a variety of creatures to explore including a 30m long tunnel where you can see sturgeons, percha and pike, a tropical fresh water tank where you can see piranhas, caimans, electrical eels and the rare American spatulate fish, a 15m shark tunnel, a touch pool where koi carps come right up close to see you and even a reptile nursery featuring a variety of small alligators.
Although not the largest aquarium in France, the Aquarium de Touraine is still worth a visit if you’ve time to spare.
