Beynac et Cazenac

Beynac et Cazenac lies 31km to the southeast of St Avit Loisirs campsite and is a must visit for anyone who loves taking photographs.
This wonderfully medieval village lies nestled below the cliffs along the river Dordogne. Classified as “Les plus beaux villages de France” one of the most beautiful villages of France, it’s not hard to see why so many people visit Beynac et Cazenac each year.
Overlooking the village, high of the cliff above is the Chateau de Beynac. The Chateau is one of the most spectacular medieval castles in the whole of the Dordogne region if not France itself. Once occupied by Richard the Lion Heart, King of England, the Chateau offers visitors a wonderful chance to explore the regions history and the views from the Chateau and it’s grounds are truly spectacular.

Gouffre de Proumeyssac

Gouffre de Proumeyssac is a magical cave system that lies 12 km to the southeast of St Avit Loisirs campsite near to Le Bugue.
The caves were discovered by Gabriel Galou in 1907 and offers visitors the chance to see the wonders of the underground world.
Within the cave system there are a variety of galleries one of which is known as the “Crystal Cathedral” due to the enormous number of stalagmites, stalactites and monoliths which are there.
The tour starts with a light show and those who want to make a stunning entrance can take a ride down in a gondola by paying extra, instead of walking down the steps. Be warned though as if you take the gondola you’ll be the ones everyone is looking at as you make your decent!

Aquarium du Perigord Noir

The Aquarium at Perigord Noir is a great place to visit if you have children. Located approximately 9km to the southeast of St Avit Loisirs campsite, on the outskirts of Le Bugue, the aquarium is home to in excess of 6000 fish from a variety of different species. To celebrate the aquariums 25 year anniversary there is also an alligator and reptile zone where you can see a variety of different creatures. One of the great things about the aquarium are the pools where you can interact with the fish. These are especially great for those with children.

Prehisto Parc

Prehisto Parc is an interesting place to visit where you can discover the prehistoric era through a variety of life sized scenes. Take a walk around the parc and find out how Neanderthal hunters went about their daily life and discover some of the animals they would have come across.
Prehisto Parc can be found 25km to the east of St Avit Loisirs and is great for those looking to find out a little more about prehistoric life. As well as a tour there are also a variety of workshops where visitors can get a better grasp of the customs and life during this unique period in time. Flint cutting demonstrations, fire making and also hunting demonstrations are all available during high season.
