How can I get travel to France with my dog?
There are several ways to travel to France with your dog. You can use certain airlines that allow dog transportation however the easiest way to travel to France with your dog is via the Eurotunnel or via one of the many ferry companies.
What paperwork do I need to take my dog on holiday?
At the moment as the UK is part of the EU you will need to ensure your dog has an EU Pet Passport for travelling to France. Pet passports can be arranged through most vet practices for a fee.
Are there any age limits for dogs?
You dog must be older than 15 weeks to be able to travel to France.
Will my dog need any vaccinations?
Your dog must be vaccinated against rabies and must have been treated for tapeworm. You must also wait 21 days following the rabies vaccination prior to travelling.
Does my dog need to be microchipped?
Your dog needs to be microchipped for you to be able to travel to France. They must also be done prior to, or at the same time as they receive their rabies vaccination.
Are any types of dogs not allowed to travel to France?
There are a number of breeds that are prohibited from entering France. A list of these can be found on the French Government website.
Pet Passport after BREXIT
If you are looking to travel to France after Brexit you may notice certain changes. The Brexit deadline is the 29th March 2019 and the Government are looking to have some form of deal in place prior to this date. Currently with no Brexit deal in place there are three possible scenarios.
Scenario 1 would result in little change from current requirements. Furthermore under scenario 1 the UK would become a Third Country and only minor changes would be seen.
Scenario 2 would mean that there may be additional border controls, additional requirements under the passport and reduced times and lengths of travel.
Scenario 3 would be the worst scenario and is likely under a “No deal” Brexit. This scenario would mean you would in effect have to speak to your vet a minimum of 4 months prior to travel.
