Things to see and do
There are plenty of things to see and do, and places to visit, within a short distance of Esterel Caravanning campsite including:
- Marineland – Marineland is home to a variety of creatures including penguins, sea lions, sharks, dolphins, killer whales and even polar bears. There are a variety of shows each and every day at Marineland so that you can see the dolphins and killer whales perform. As well as Marineland you’ll also find Aquasplash, Adventure Golf and Kids Island where you’ll find a variety of attractions water slides and much more.
- Frejus – Along with the variety of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants in Frejus a visit to this town, will show you that there’s plenty to see and do. Dating back to Roman times, Frejus was once one of the most important and prosperous ports on the Mediterranean. Some Roman buildings still exist today and are well worth visiting. The Roman Amphitheatre for example once held 10,000 people who probably attended to see gladiators die. Now used for concerts and shows the amphitheatre is quite popular with visitors and although smaller than the one in Nimes, it does give you a sense of how they once lived. Along with the amphitheatre, there are remains of a Roman aqueduct and the museum holds various finds from throughout time. It’s also worth seeing the cathedral and the medieval town square which regularly holds markets.
- St Tropez – St Tropez’s history dates back to pre-Roman times and although once a sleepy fishing village, its popularity didn’t come into effect until the 1950s.
A visit to this wonderful place will show you that much of the fishing village still exists today where narrow streets are lined with quaint painted fisherman’s cottages. Of course, St Tropez is now favoured for its beautiful beaches, boutiques, shops, bars, clubs and restaurants but one thing you must see if you visit St Tropez is the citadel. Constructed in the 16th Century, the citadel sits high above the town and although the climb to the top can be quite tiring during a mid summers day, believe us when we tell you it’s worthwhile doing. The views from the citadel over St Tropez and surrounding areas are awe inspiring and provide the perfect photo opportunity.
- Aqualand – Aqualand is the largest water park in the region and offers visitors the chance to have a great deal of watery fun and excitement. A variety of slides and chutes are available offering swimmers of different ages, abilities and nerve the chance to splash around. Those with younger children will also find a splash area and slides designed especially for them. Although entry prices are average for water parks, it’s worth considering buying the fast passes. As it’s one of the most popular attractions in the area, Aqualand can get busy at times especially during high season.
