Exploring the region...
The region of the Loire Valley has to be one of the most spectacular regions for those seeking a little bit of culture and history, mixed in with the ability to enjoy all of the other things a camping holiday in France has to offer.
It is said that there are in excess of 100 fairy tale châteaux within the region, with the Château d’Usse reportedly being the inspiration for ‘Sleeping Beauty’.
The French have been holidaying in the area for many years with many of the original châteaux being built when the aristocracy of France left Paris during the Hundred Years War. For starters the château at Amboise was one of the many homes of François I, and was also once home to Charles VIII.
In the chapel at the château you will also find the place that Leonardo da Vinci's body was buried due to him living at Clos Luce. Another château in the region, is Château de Blois, which has been home to Louis XII, François I and Catherine de Medici but to name a few.
If you are looking for a beach holiday then you will not be disappointed. The region is not far away from the region of the Vendee, with its Atlantic coastline and many of the campsites within the area feature river or lake beaches.
Like other regions in France the Loire has many vineyards scattered around the countryside making it a popular area for wine tasters and wine tours to visit. With great names like Sancerre and Muscadet being available it not hard to see why.
There truly is something for everyone within the Loire Valley, from single travellers to families, so why not take your pick from one of the fabulous campsites listed.
