Eurocamp Carnac, Compare the Best Campsites in Brittany’s Coastal Gem

Eurocamp Carnac, Compare the Best Campsites in Brittany’s Coastal Gem

We’ve been holidaying with Eurocamp in France for years now, and Carnac is one of those places we always love coming back to. With its golden beaches, beautiful countryside, and family-friendly location, it’s no surprise it’s one of Eurocamp’s most popular spots in Brittany.

Whilst we haven’t stayed at all of the Eurocamp campsites in Carnac, we’ve visited the area several times with our children, have done plenty of research and have plenty of Eurocamp experience to help you plan for your future trips.

Each site offers something a little different — whether it’s a big pool complex, peaceful woodland setting, or easy access to town and beach.

In this post, we’re sharing what we’ve learned about La Grande Métairie, Les Menhirs, Moulin de Kermaux, and Domaine de Kermario — along with a handy comparison table to help you choose the right one for your family holiday.

Why Carnac Is Perfect for a Eurocamp Holiday

There’s a reason Carnac keeps drawing families back year after year — us included. Tucked away on the south coast of Brittany, it strikes that perfect balance between relaxing beach holiday and something a bit more adventurous.

First off, the beaches are fantastic. Long stretches of golden sand, shallow water that’s ideal for paddling, and plenty of space even in the summer.

Our kids have spent hours building sandcastles and chasing waves, while we actually got a chance to relax. Plage de Saint-Colomban and Grande Plage de Carnac are two of our favourites — calm, clean, and never too crowded.

Then there are the Carnac standing stones — thousands of prehistoric stones stretching across the countryside in neat little rows. Even if you’re not usually into ancient history, it’s pretty mind-blowing to walk among them (and it’s a great excuse to stretch little legs after ice cream stops in town).

You can find out more about the standing stone in our The Standing Stones at Carnac article.

Carnac is also super accessible if you’re driving from the UK. It’s just a couple of hours from the ferry ports of Roscoff and St Malo whilst Caen and even Calais are still easily accessible, making it an ideal family holiday location.

Finally, there’s the overall Brittany charm — think crepes and cider, colourful markets, pretty towns and beautiful coastline and countryside.

Add to that a handful of excellent Eurocamp sites, all within a few minutes of the beach and town centre, and you’ve got the recipe for a brilliant, no-fuss family holiday.

Whether it’s your first Eurocamp trip or you’re a regular, Carnac really ticks all the boxes for a family break.

Carnac Campsites in Depth

Now you’ve seen the 4 Eurocamp sites in Carnac lets look at each one to find out a little more.

La Grande Métairie – For Nature-Lovers and Toddlers

La Grande Metairie Swimming Pool and Slides

La Grande Metairie is a long standing Eurocamp favourite that has been around for years. It’s now owned by Marvilla Parks which is a sister company of Eurocamp.

Its great for those looking for a peaceful, countryside escape with plenty to keep little ones happy and it’s not far from Carnac’s famous standing stones and offers a wealth of things to do onsite and nearby.

We haven’t visited the campsite for some years however not much has changed since then. Set in lush, green countryside the campsite has a rustic feel.

One of the best features of La Grande Metairie is the mini farm. It’s not every day you can wake up and visit goats, rabbits, and chickens before breakfast. It’s a real hit with toddlers and preschoolers and ours certainly loved it when they were little.

La Grande Metairie Mini Farm with Sheep

The pool complex is one of the biggest in Carnac, with slides, swimming pools, and plenty of sunbeds. The covered pool is great, so even if the weather’s not perfect, the kids can still burn off some energy. And because the site is quite spacious, it never feels overcrowded.

La Grande Metairie Highlights:

  • Large aquatic area with pools and slides
  • Mini Farm for young children
  • Tree-top adventure course
  • Kids clubs
  • Tennis, football and sports facilities
  • Pony rides
  • Bar, restaurant and shop
  • 3km from beach

There’s a lovely woodland feel throughout, and while the beach isn’t walkable from here, it’s only a short drive or cycle away. That said, being near to the Alignements de Carnac (the standing stones) makes this site feel like you’re properly in the heart of Brittany’s unique landscape.

La Grande Métairie is best suited for younger families, especially those with toddlers or kids under 15 who are happy to explore, pet animals, and play outside all day. It’s also ideal if you prefer more green space and don’t mind hopping in the car to reach the beach.

Les Menhirs – For Beach-Loving Families

Les Menhirs Carnac Campsite

If your ideal holiday involves being able to walk to the beach, pop out for ice cream in the evening, or stroll into town for a lazy dinner, Les Menhirs is the one for you.

It’s the closest Eurocamp site to Carnac-Plage, just a few minutes’ walk from the sand and sea, so there’s no need to pack the car every day.

Les Menhirs has a more modern, lively feel, with a big focus on family fun.

The pool area is excellent, with water slides and an indoor and outside pool that’s great for all ages. There’s usually a buzz of activity, especially during peak season, and it’s easy for older kids to make friends here.

One of the best things about Les Menhirs is the walkability. Whether you want to grab fresh pastries in the morning or head to the beach for sunset, everything is within easy reach.

The town of Carnac-Plage is right on your doorstep, with cafés, souvenir shops, and a laid-back seafront promenade which is why the campsite has no restaurant but don’t let that put you off.

Les Menhirs Highlights:

  • Great pool with slides
  • Walking distance from beach
  • Walking distance from Carnac centre
  • Kids clubs
  • Sports facilities
  • Bar, takeaway and shop

There’s plenty for kids to do and that’s why it tends to be popular with families all season round so if you’re planning on heading here make sure you book early to avoid disappointment.

It’s a more compact site than La Grande Métairie, but that also makes it feel a bit more connected and convenient. And with everything so close by, you can really settle into that relaxed holiday feeling without needing to plan too much.

Moulin de Kermaux – Small, Friendly, and Good Value

Moulin de Kermaux Campsite Carnac

Tucked away just outside the main town, Moulin de Kermaux is a smaller and quieter Eurocamp site.

It’s perfect if you’re looking for something a bit more low-key, however it still has everything you need with a lovely pool complete with slides, a play area, bar, and takeaway — but on a smaller, family-friendly scale.

This is a great campsite if you prefer a more relaxed pace, and therefore it’s often one of the better value options in Carnac, especially in peak season.

It’s a short walk or cycle from the famous standing stones, and just a 5-minute drive to the beach — or about 10 minutes by bike if you’re feeling active.

Moulin de Kermaux Play Areas

There are only 150 pitches on the campsite, however although small in size there’s still enough going on to keep the kids happy, especially younger ones.

Moulin de Kermaux Highlights:

  • Nice swimming pool with slides
  • Play areas for children
  • Football and sports facilities
  • Small and relaxed
  • Bar and takeaway
  • 4.6km from the beach

We’d recommend Moulin de Kermaux for young families, or anyone who wants a good balance of good facilities at a reasonable price. It’s also a good base if you’re planning day trips around Brittany, since it’s easy to get in and out of town.

It may not have the bells and whistles of the larger sites, but it definitely has its charm — especially if you’re not keen on crowds and prefer somewhere that still feels like a proper campsite.

Domaine de Kermario – Relaxed and Budget-Friendly

Domaine de Kermario Campsite Carnac

Last but not least, Domaine de Kermario is another great value Eurocamp site that offers a more laid back holiday.

It’s just down the road from La Grande Métairie and close to the standing stones, so you’re still in a scenic, peaceful part of Carnac but at a more affordable price point.

This site has a more relaxed feel with only 132 pitches and whilst the facilities are a little simpler, they’re still great for families.

There’s a decent pool area, a play zone, and sports courts so it’s easy to unwind here, and great for younger families as it’s often less busy than the more centrally located campsites.

Domaine de Kermario is ideal for families who like to do their own thing.

There’s less organised entertainment, which can actually be a plus if you prefer not to stick to a schedule. It’s great for kids who are happy with a pool, a football pitch, and a bike — and for parents who want some time to sit back with a glass of wine in the sun.

Domaine de Kermario Highlights:

  • Small campsite with less noise
  • Nice pool area
  • Countryside location
  • Football and sports facilities
  • Cheaper than other in the area
  • 3km from beach

The beach is a short drive or cycle away, and you’re well-placed for exploring Carnac, the standing stones, or heading further afield to places like Quiberon or Auray.

Domaine de Kermario Campsite Buidings

If you’re after a budget friendly Eurocamp break that’s still in a fantastic location, Domaine de Kermario is definitely worth a look. It’s ideal for laid back families who want good weather, outdoor fun, and a base to explore Brittany without paying a premium.
