One question that comes up time and time again is “What are the best campsites near to the ferry ports?” and so this week we aim to show you our top 10 favourite campsites that are within two hours of the ferry ports!
Whilst many new and seasoned travellers are happy to venture further south into France, there are various groups who would prefer to stay a lot closer to the north coast.
These groups include those camping in France for the first time, those looking for a short break, families keen to arrive at their campsite as quickly as possible without a massive onward journey and those who love or who are wanting to explore northern France.
More often than not, it’s those families with slightly younger children who would rather stay at a campsite near to the ferry ports to save them travelling long distances and we all know that long drives can lead to a more stressful journey.
With all of this in mind, we’ll show you some of our favourite campsites, located within a short drive once you disembark from the ferry.

Domaine de Drancourt, Saint Valery sur Somme
Domaine de Drancourt is a wonderful campsite that can be found at Saint Valery due Somme which is just over an hours drive from both Dieppe and Calais ferry ports. Nestled in the grounds of the Chateau de Drancourt, the campsite boasts a large amount of open spaces where children can play and a great range of activities and facilities including a lovely swimming pool complex.

La Bien Assise is one of the closest campsites to a ferry port being just a 20 minute drive from Calais near to the town of Guines. The campsite has much to offer with a great swimming pool and wonderful facilities, not to mention the great location within the wooded and parkland grounds of the Chateau.

Chateau Le Brevedent is a lovely campsite near to Pont L’Eveque which lies less than an hours drive from both Caen and Le Havre ferry ports.
Although smaller than some of the other campsites in the region Chateau Le Brevedent gives you everything you’ll need on your family holiday. There’s a great swimming pool complex, a lake and a whole range of other activities on site ready for you to enjoy.

La Vallee is a popular campsite near to Houlgate which is only around an hour from Le Havre and 35 minutes from Caen ferry ports.
The campsite has lots of great activities for families to enjoy including a great swimming pool complex, sports activities and a beach less than 1km away. La Vallee also offers visitors the perfect location from which you can explore Normandy!

La Cote de Nacre is located a Saint Aubin sur Mer on the north coast of Normandy which is a mere 30 minute drive away from the cross channel ferry port of Caen. The beach is just 500m from the campsite and with a great swimming pool complex, playground with bouncy castles and superb range of other facilities on site, you’d be mad not to visit.
One of the best things about La Cote de Nacre is it’s close proximity to the monuments and sites depicting Operation Overlord and D-Day. With all this history on your doorstep, it’s the ideal campsite for exploring and discovering the history of WW2.

Les Mouettes campsite can be found at Carantec, which lies less than 25 minutes to the east of the Roscoff ferry port and boasts a truly spectacular swimming pool complex.
A range of swimming pools, slides, a lazy river and a great deal of fun awaits you at Les Mouettes. To compliment the pools you’ll also find a great range of activities and facilities on site making it a great family holiday location.

L’Atlantique is one of the furthest campsites we’ll feature in this article being around 1hr and 44 minutes from the Roscoff ferry port. Although slightly further away, the journey is certainly worth it. With a great swimming pool complex and direct access to a superb sandy beach, you really are spoilt for choice!
You’ll also find a great range of other activities and facilities on site to ensure you have a brilliant family holiday.
L'AtlantiquePointe St Gilles, Benodet
Pointe St Gilles in Brittany is another campsite close to our 2 hour limit being around 1hr and 50 minutes from the Roscoff ferry port. Like L’Atlantique, although slightly further away than many of the campsites we’ve listed, Pointe St Gilles is well worth the extra travelling time.
There are some wonderful beaches nearby and the pool complex is second to none in the area. You’ll also find a great range of activities on site with plenty of wonderful quaint villages to visit nearby. A real family favourite, Pointe St Gilles has a tendency to book up fast so please make sure you don’t miss out!

Chateau de Galinee is a great family run campsite which is located at St Cast just 45 minutes from St Malo and just under 2 hours drive from Roscoff ferry ports.
The relaxed atmosphere and stunning range of activities and facilities make Chateau de Galinee a very popular campsite. The swimming pool complex offers a couple of pools and slides that kids of all ages will love whilst the adults can relax in the knowledge that the whole family will have a great deal of fun and enjoyment here.

Chateau des Ormes is located just 40 minutes from St Malo and an hour and a half from Caen and is set in around 250 acres of wood and parkland within the grounds of the Chateau.
Chateau des Ormes is a really popular campsite and it’s not hard to see why. The facilities and activities available are second to none with horse and pony riding available along with an 18 hole golf course and driving range. This campsite is in our opinion one of the best in northern France and should definitely be one to consider!
